Stainless steel bird spikes cost between £2.04 and £3.54 per metre from EnviroGuard, including VAT, depending on the width of the ledge you need to cover. Bird spike prices per metre
The width of the ledge decides which spike you need, not the size of the bird. Measure the surface you want to protect, then match it to the spike.

The stainless steel spikes are made from 304 grade steel and have snap-off points in the base, so you can cut them to length by hand. Seagulls need the taller seagull spike rather than simply a wider one. Polycarbonate spikes are non-conductive, which makes them useful near electrical fittings.
What else you need to fit them
Most spikes are fixed with adhesive. Fix All Crystal adhesive costs £7.93 a tube, and one tube lays about 8 metres of spike. A surface cleaner at £10.25 helps the adhesive grip. If you are fitting spikes to a half round or ogee gutter, gutter clips cost £2.70 per metre and hold the spikes on the gutter lip where you cannot bond or drill.
A worked example
Suppose pigeons are landing on a 10 metre window ledge that is 100mm deep. The narrow spike covers that width, so you need 10 metres at £2.04, which is £20.40, plus two tubes of adhesive at £7.93, which is £15.86, because one tube lays about 8 metres. Your total materials cost is £36.26.
Buying in bulk

What affects the price of having spikes fitted
On a fitted job, most of the cost is getting safely to the ledge. A ground floor window can be done from a ladder, but a third floor parapet or a roof ridge may need a scaffold tower or a cherry picker. The installer will also clean off droppings before fitting, because adhesive will not hold on a dirty surface. That is why a fitted price is given after a survey rather than per metre.
