Solar Panel Exclusion
Solar panels have experienced a rise in popularity in the UK over the past few years. As of early 2024, there were approximately 1.4 million solar panel installations across the country. Unfortunately, this popular energy source option provides the perfect shelter for feral pigeons to nest and cause a general nuisance.
EnviroGuard’s solar panel bird proofing products have been developed to deny birds entry and are a non-intrusive solution that does not involve piercing or damaging the solar panels with mechanical fixings, hence avoiding warranty issues.
Start with the frame, not the bird. Which system you need is decided by one thing: whether the panel has a lip on the underside of its frame. Check one panel before ordering anything, because the two routes are not interchangeable.
Panels with an underside lip take the traditional mesh and clip system. Galvanised weldmesh, 25mm by 12.5mm on a 200mm wide roll, held against the panel edge by clips that hook over the lip. Nothing is drilled and the panel warranty is untouched.
Panels with no lip take the Solar Mesh Speed Clip, which grips the side of the frame instead. It comes in 30mm, 35mm and 40mm to match the frame depth, in clear or black to suit the mesh. Measure the frame before ordering.
Uneven and profiled roofs are where the Solarguard adjustable spike is the practical answer. The spike is 210mm before trimming and is cut back with wire cutters on site, so one part covers clearances the fixed systems cannot.
Working out quantities. Mesh is supplied in rolls and is usually cut into lengths of around six feet and straightened before fitting. Measure the full perimeter of the array, not the individual panels.
